ABOUT LANGUAGE

Tamil language is an ancient South Indian Language with a long history and rich literature and comprehensive grammar. Tamil is one of the longest-surviving classical languages in the world.

SCHOOL AFFILIATIONS

Affiliated with International Tamil Academy (formerly known as California Tamil Academy) and follows the ITA curriculum.

International Tamil Academy is also associated with Tamil Virtual University of Tamilnadu state government, India 

International Tamil Academy is also associated with Berkeley University, California USA.

Tamil Classes

Fall 2021

Tamil 1A: Introductory Tamil - 5 Units

Timings: 

Tuesday and Thursday | 9:30 AM - 11 AM,

Location: 

210 Dwinelle Hall.

Course Outcomes: 

Read, Write, Speak & Comprehend Tamil


Tamil 101A: Intermediate Tamil- Prose and Poetry 4 or 5 units

Timings: 

Tuesday and Thursday | 11 AM - 12:30 PM,

Location: 

234 Dwinelle Hall.

Course Outcomes: 

Read Tamil short stories and poems. Write small essays. If you have learned Tamil in CTA or can read Tamil please come and see Kausalya Hart to take this class.


Degrees:

Minor: 

Students who take 2 years of Tamil and 3 courses can minor in South and Southeast Asian Studies.

Major: 

Students can have a second major in South and Southeast Asian Studies.

Honors: 

Students who major can write a research paper and graduate with honors.
